On the Road

I’m on the road. Post will return tomorrow with another Tuesday Tidbit.

Update: I’m home. No major excitement. However, the new aggregate surface on the highway makes it hard to listen to heavy metal and some pipe-organ music on the stereo without cranking the volume to ear-bleed levels. The rough surface, plus tire sound, drowns out the bass. TXDoT needs to rectify this posthaste. 😉

  1. Sounds like they used some Aggregate of Unusual Size, instead of the usual recycled road surface. Maybe they want a slightly larger batch in hopes of better winter traction and grip. I doesn’t take much size difference to move from mid-range to bass, for random vibration and noise.

  2. It seems that a number of people have used selective grooving to enable tune-playing through a car. Honda did this in Lancaster, CA, with varying degrees of acceptance/outrage (it’s a bit loud outside). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_road (See the United States section for the details.)
