The stupid trees are blooming already. The daffodils are coming up. The roses have leafed out and are trying to bud.
They’re doomed, doooooooomed, I tell you.
This is the Panhandle. Not quite as stubborn as Sparta, but no smart plant dares flower before late April. Which probably explains why 1) flowering trees are not sapient and 2) fruit tree orchards never survived outside the inner Canadian River Valley. You see, it’s not safe.
And anyone who plants tomatoes before the mesquite blooms deserves what they get.
